When an xTool Apparel Printer Plus stops producing normally, start with the symptom—not random cleaning, disassembly or part replacement. This troubleshooting hub organizes the most common DTF printer problems into a simple diagnostic path for white ink, CMYK, banding, blank prints, PET film, cutting, xTool Studio connections and printer errors.
Before troubleshooting print quality, print a nozzle/test pattern.
On the printer LCD, go to Maintenance → Print Test Image → Start. The test helps separate an ink-flow or nozzle problem from artwork, RIP, film or curing issues.
Safety boundary: this GPI guide covers safe diagnostic checks and routes you to the correct manufacturer procedure. If an xTool procedure requires removing electrical panels, reseating board cables or servicing powered components, power off and unplug the printer first and follow the official xTool instructions exactly.
Before You Troubleshoot: Collect These 5 Things
If a simple fix does not resolve the problem, having the right diagnostic information ready can dramatically shorten the support process.

xTool Apparel Printer Plus Has No White Ink Output
Missing white ink is one of the most important DTF-specific problems because the white layer creates the opaque underbase needed for colored and dark garments.
xTool separates this into two scenarios: a brand-new printer that has never produced white correctly and a printer that loses white output after regular use or extended standby.
First checks for no white ink
- Print the test image and confirm whether the white section is missing.
- Confirm the printer contains adequate white ink.
- Check that the applicable white-ink clips are fully released/open.
- Look for obvious white-ink separation or long periods when the printer was powered off.
- Confirm the printer has remained powered so white-ink circulation can operate.
On a new machine, xTool also checks for first-installation issues such as protective film remaining on the printhead or insufficient ink reaching the white-ink damper.
White ink stopped after the printer was working normally
Potential causes include white-ink sedimentation, restricted tubing, a waste-ink recovery problem or more severe printhead blockage.
Avoid immediately jumping to deep cleaning. Start with the official xTool white-ink diagnosis because it separates circulation, ink delivery and printhead problems systematically.
No CMYK Color or One Color Stops Printing
If white prints normally but color does not, use the CMYK side of xTool's Plus-specific ink-flow diagnosis.
Identify whether all CMYK is missing or only one specific channel.
Make sure the relevant tank has ink and normal ink delivery has not been interrupted.
Follow the normal maintenance workflow before assuming a pump, damper or printhead has failed.
For deeper diagnosis, use xTool's current Plus-specific CMYK flow guide:

Horizontal Banding or Missing Lines in DTF Prints
Horizontal striping can come from several very different causes, which is why a nozzle test should be performed before changing print settings.
xTool currently identifies four major causes:
- feathering disabled or insufficient pass blending;
- low humidity;
- poor ink circulation; and
- clogged printhead nozzles.
The nozzle test looks good, but the design has bands
Check artwork/print settings and feathering before assuming the printhead is clogged. A good test pattern suggests ink delivery may be healthy.
The nozzle test has missing lines
Follow xTool's missing-strip/nozzle workflow. Environmental conditions and ink circulation should be checked before moving to deeper printhead treatment.
The room is dry
Check room humidity and the Plus humidity module. Low humidity is a documented cause of banding because dry conditions can affect ink flow at the nozzles.

Deep soaking is not the first step for a brand-new printer. xTool specifically says a new unit with a failed test print is more likely to have a first-installation ink-flow issue than a severely clogged printhead.
Missing Nozzle Lines / Failed Test Print
If the printed test pattern itself has missing strip lines, the problem is closer to the ink-delivery or printhead system than to your shirt artwork.
xTool's current troubleshooting guidance treats a test pattern with no more than roughly five missing lines in a color block as acceptable in its Plus ink-flow diagnostic, while larger failures warrant further troubleshooting.

Printer Carriage Moves, But the Film Comes Out Blank
This problem is different from simply losing white or one CMYK channel. xTool defines “No Print Output” as the carriage moving normally while both the design and test image remain completely blank.
Current documented causes include:
- abnormal firmware state;
- encoder-strip problems;
- carriage controller-board issues; or
- printhead electrical failure.
If both CMYK and white are completely absent, don't repeatedly run aggressive cleaning cycles. This can be an electronics or control issue rather than a normal nozzle clog.

PET Film Will Not Feed, Eject or Enter the OS1
Film problems fall into two major groups: the printer cannot move the film or the printer moves it but the film does not transfer correctly into the OS1.
Film does not move when printing
- Check that the pinch-roller switch is fully engaged.
- Confirm the film is actually being clamped by the rollers.
- Reload the film if the sheet is skewed or not seated correctly.
Feed / Eject buttons do not move the film
Check the pinch roller first. If it remains abnormal, xTool's diagnostic continues into shaft, bearing, motor and electrical checks.
Film reaches the OS1 but jams or falls into the buffer zone
Common causes include printer-to-oven alignment, bracket gaps, uneven film edges, film misalignment against the white marking line and incorrect calibration.
Ink Smears or Puddles Appear on Unprinted Film
If fresh film develops ink stains before the actual artwork area, xTool documents a surprisingly mechanical cause: the film can buckle upward during cutting, touch the wet printhead, transfer ink to the pinch rollers and then contaminate subsequent film.
The first thing to verify is film alignment.
- Align the film precisely to the printer's white reference line.
- Do not overlap the line.
- xTool currently specifies a deviation of no more than about 1 mm.
- Inspect the cutting module if alignment is correct but the issue continues.

Apparel Printer Plus Cutting Errors
If the film is not cutting correctly, start with the film itself before assuming the blade module has failed.
Verify correct loading, alignment and that the film is not wrinkled or obstructed.
Use the printer's Maintenance controls to test cutting independently from a production job.
A worn or damaged blade module can require replacement.

xTool Studio Can't Find the Printer or Print Task Fails
Connection issues should be separated into USB problems, Wi-Fi problems and task-transfer problems.
USB device not found
- Connect directly rather than through a USB hub/dock when possible.
- Test another USB port.
- Test another known-good cable.
- Update xTool Studio.
- Check printer firmware.
- Temporarily disable VPN software while diagnosing.
Wi-Fi connection drops or printer disappears
First test USB. If USB works but Wi-Fi does not, focus on network configuration rather than printer hardware.
Common causes include VPNs, devices being on different networks/subnets, poor signal strength, proxies and operating-system network permissions.
"Task Request Failed" appears
xTool says unstable Wi-Fi is a high-probability cause. Compare the same task over USB before changing project files or reinstalling software.
If both USB and Wi-Fi fail, Studio logs and the project file become especially useful for support.
For general Studio operation, see our xTool Studio Guide for Apparel Printer Plus .
Device Self-Check Failure or Printer Error Code
Error-code troubleshooting is where random experimentation becomes least useful. Write down or photograph the exact error text/code before restarting the device.
Device Self-Check Failure
The printer/OS1 self-check validates sensors and mechanical parts involved in film feeding. Failures commonly appear during first setup or when film does not engage the oven correctly.
Device Self-Check Failure guide →
Print Head Carriage Board Power Exception
xTool's first Plus-specific step is a controlled power reset: disconnect power, wait at least 15 seconds, reconnect and see whether the error clears.
If the error remains, subsequent diagnosis involves internal electronics and should follow xTool's official instructions rather than improvisation.

Ink Insufficient Error Even Though the Tank Has Ink
xTool has separate diagnostic paths for CMYK and white-ink level errors because the tank sensors and float behavior differ.

Grainy or Blurry DTF Print Quality
If the image prints but looks grainy, soft or blurry, avoid treating it automatically as a nozzle clog.
Check:
- source image quality and effective resolution;
- Studio print parameters;
- printer calibration;
- film/media selection;
- nozzle-test results; and
- whether the problem appears on the film before heat pressing or only after pressing.
If you escalate this issue, xTool specifically asks for the project file, Studio logs and comparison photos of the film versus the finished pressed garment.

Severe Nozzle Blockage Error
A severe nozzle-blockage warning should be treated differently from one or two minor missing lines.
xTool's current prevention guidance emphasizes:
- regular printer use;
- keeping white ink circulating;
- stable temperature and humidity;
- routine maintenance; and
- addressing failed nozzle tests early.
